Patricia Hayden Beckford, Psy.D.
Dr. Patricia Beckford is a licensed psychologist specializing in school psychology and child/adolescent/young adult clinical psychology. Dr. Beckford also works with adults and families facing emotional challenges in daily living, coping with loss or illness, or facing unemployment. Dr. Beckford is particularly interested in providing counseling services to women facing stress, change, and transition.
Dr. Beckford’s general clinical approach recognizes the role of faith, family, culture, and healthy relationships in overcoming obstacles, coping with loss, achieving goals, or facing stress in everyday living. Dr. Beckford works from a strengths-based perspective that helps her clients to integrate areas in need of growth alongside areas of personal strength and resilience.
Dr. Beckford holds a Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she also completed a certification program in school psychology.
Dr. Beckford completed her pre-doctoral internship at Judge Baker Children Center & Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Upon receiving her doctorate degree, Dr. Beckford completed a post-doctoral fellowship in adolescent/young adult psychology, and later, an additional clinical fellowship (with a focus on research) with her mentor, Dr. Jessica Henderson Daniel, at Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Upon completing her training and fellowships, Dr. Beckford worked in a variety of settings serving children, families, adults, and schools, including Boston Regional Medical Center, Brighton-Allston Community Mental Health Center, and the Boston Public School system. Dr. Beckford has also worked as a teaching fellow and adjunct lecturer in the Prevention Science and Practice Program (formerly known as the Risk & Prevention Program) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Dr. Beckford has a range of professional interests and is available to provide a range of professional services to schools, youth services agencies, individuals and families, and parent and community groups.
